New Guidelines for Meningococcal Vaccine Administration for Babies and Infants

Please note that there are NEW meningococcal vaccine adminstration guidelines from the Melbourne Vaccine education Centre.  A large number of our gorgeous young patients are currently receiving the privately scripted Meningococcal Group B (Bexsero) and Meningococcal Groups ACWY (Nimenrix, Menveo or Menactra) vaccines.  The schedule has now changed :

  • Bexsero – Patients starting Bexsero under 11 months of age require 2 doses (given 8 weeks apart) with a booster after age 12 months (and at least 8 weeks after the last dose) Patients commencing Bexsero after 12 months of age require 2 doses minimum 8 weeks apart.
  • Nimenrix – Patients commencing prior to 5 months of age receive 2 doses (8 weeks apart) and 1 booster dose after 12 months of age (and at least 8 weeks after previous dose)  Patients commencing at 6-11 months of age receive 1 dose and 1 booster dose after 12 months of age (and at least 8 weeks after previous dose). Patients commencing after 12 months of age receive 1 dose.
  • Menveo and Menactra have different dosing, please consult with the nurse and doctor for further advice

Please note that a single dose of Nimenrix is currently provided for free at 12 months of age on the National Immunisation Program.
